Bloomberg reported on 22 August 2026 that Nvidia told large customers server prices will climb more than 15% on Grace Blackwell and Vera Rubin systems shipping in early 2027.
Who was told, and which racks
Tom's Hardware, citing Bloomberg, said contract server builders for Microsoft, Google, and Oracle have already passed the notice to their customers. The size of each increase depends on chip generation and memory configuration.
The Information separately put some GB300 and Vera Rubin 200 configs near 17%. Use 15% as the floor Nvidia named and 17% as a config-level figure from a second outlet. Do not flatten them into one rate for every rack.
These are 2027 shipping systems. They are not a retroactive bill for boxes already on the floor. The customers who matter this week are the ones locking 2027 capacity.
If you already track Nvidia's $1.5 billion SB Energy stake in OpenAI's Ohio campus, keep power and rack price in separate lines. Ohio is energy. This notice is the server BOM.
Why the AI server bill is rising
The driver is memory, not a new Nvidia chip list price. HBM and DRAM from Samsung, SK hynix, and Micron have soared as capacity shifted toward AI stacks.
A Rubin GPU can ship with up to 288GB of HBM4. An NVL72 rack packs 72 of those GPUs and more than 20TB of HBM before Vera CPU memory. DRAM is one of the fattest lines on that bill of materials. When those parts inflate, a several-million-dollar rack moves by more than 15% without a new sticker on the GPU itself.
Nvidia already raised GeForce prices this month. The server hike shows the same cost pressure reaching hyperscale racks. Consumer cards and NVL72 are different products. The shared input is memory.
Do not write this as a demand collapse. TSMC still cannot fully meet accelerator demand. The constraint is supply of the stack, especially memory, not empty order books.
Margin, supply, and the 26 August print
Nvidia's non-GAAP gross margin is about 75%. Reporting says it intends to pass memory inflation through rather than eat it. That is a pricing choice. A 75% margin does not require the company to absorb a 15% rack increase. It also does not make the increase optional for the buyer.
TSMC's shortfall is the other half of the week. If accelerators remain scarce and memory is expensive, the 2027 queue is both tight and pricier. Buyers who waited for a cheaper Rubin wave now have a different spreadsheet.
Nvidia reports fiscal second-quarter earnings on 26 August 2026. That is why the leak is moving markets this week. The notice hit builders first. The earnings print is 26 August 2026, four days after the Bloomberg report.
Nvidia AVO's perfect ARC-AGI-3 score is a software wrapper story. Do not file it under this rack notice. One is a benchmark. The other is a 2027 price letter.
How to budget a 2027 rack in a skill
Put the floor in the wrapper. The skill should say: Nvidia told large customers of more than 15% on Grace Blackwell and Vera Rubin servers shipping in early 2027; some GB300 and Vera Rubin 200 configs near 17% per The Information; driver is HBM and DRAM, not a new chip list price; Rubin GPU up to 288GB HBM4; NVL72 has 72 GPUs and more than 20TB of HBM; Nvidia non-GAAP gross margin about 75% and passing inflation through; earnings 26 August 2026.
If your finance owner already celebrates OpenAI cutting GPT-5.6 Sol API prices, keep that as an inference-token line. Token price and rack price can move in opposite directions in the same month.
Do not treat 15% as the invoice. It is the notice. The invoice will name a generation, a memory config, and a delivery quarter. Those three fields belong in the skill. A paragraph that only says "Nvidia is more expensive" does not.
